Smart lipo commonly asked questions

Thursday, 28 August 2008 08:15 by Admin
The popularity of smart lipo has grown considerably over the past few years as the benefits of the fat removal procedure have become better known. Below are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding smartlipo treatment.

What is Smart lipo?
Smartlipo (also known as laser lipolysis) is a fat removal procedure which has been approved by the FDA. It involves using a laser to melt down excess fat cells in the targeted region which are then removed by the body’s natural waste removal system. The smart lipo laser is applied to the target body region through a small cannulae (small tube) which is inserted into the skin under local anaesthesia.

Is Smartlipo treatment safe?
Smart lipo is one of the safest fat removal procedures available today. Smartlipo is a minimally invasive procedure and is performed under local anaesthetic. The procedure is not painful and side effects such as bruising and swelling are minimal post smartlipo treatment.

How long will I have to take of work to have Smart lipo treatment?
Because smartlipo is a minimally invasive procedure most people are actually able to return to work the next day. There are even reports of people returning to work straight after having smartlipo treatment.  The actual time you have to take of work will depend on how extensive your smart lipo treatment is and how strenuous your job is.  We recommend that at very minimum you take the rest of the day of work after having smartlipo treatment. The smart lipo procedure usually takes around 1-2 hours to perform.

Which areas of the body are suitable for smartlipo treatment?
Smartlipo can be used to remove excess fat from a wide range of areas of the body including the chin, cheeks, neck, knees, inner and outer thighs, hips, abdomen, and arms. It can also be used to remove excess breast tissue in men, i.e. to treat gynecomastia. In general smartlipo works best when targeting small areas. It is not aimed at treating obesity and if extensive fat removal is required then liposuction should be considered as an alternative option.

The Hurlingham Clinic situated in London is one of the leading smart lipo clinics in the UK. We are now going to be using the very latest Cynosure MPX machine from the US for Smart lipo treatment which is about to be released in the UK. The new Cynosure MPX machine adds a new dimension to the existing penology of smartlipo treatment to maximise results. The latest smartlipo laser will reduce treatment time and will have a more tightening effect on the skin. Make sure to check our blog frequently as we will be discussing the benefits of the new Cynosure MPX smartlipo machine in more depth in one of our upcoming posts.

Anaesthesia for Cosmetic Surgery

Friday, 8 August 2008 01:03 by mike
Anesthesia is an important component of cosmetic surgery. Many people consider having cosmetic surgery (plastic surgery) are unaware of what anesthesia actually involves and what options are available to them. In this article we hope to provide you with answers to some of the common questions regarding anesthesia in relation to cosmetic surgery.

What is anesthesia?
Although there are a number of definitions of anesthesia, it is generally defined as the process of having our sensations reversibly blocked (e.g. our sensation of pain) which allows us to undergo surgery or other medical procedures without distress and pain.

Dependingon the extent of their affects on the body, anesthetics are often classified as general anesthetics or local anesthetics.
General anesthesia: general anesthetics cause a complete reversible loss of consciousness for a certain period of time. During this time period patients are not arousable by any type of external stimulus, including pain. General anesthesia is generally the most suitable form of anesthesia for major plastic surgery procedures such as major liposuction and breast augmentation surgery which involves the insertion of breast implants.

Regional anesthesia: regional anesthesia do not cause a complete loss of consciousness like general anesthetics. Regional anesthetics have a more localised effect which cause a loss of pain sensation with varying degrees of muscle relaxation which affects only certain targeted regions of the body. Regional anesthetics which have very localised affects are also commonly referred to as local anesthetics. Local anesthetics are commonly used for smaller and less invasive cosmetic surgery procedures such as lip augmentation and liposuction on a small area of the body.

In general, local anesthesia has lower recovery times and lower complication risks than general anesthesia. However due to its localised affects it is often not suitable for larger surgeries which require a general anesthetic to effectively eliminate the pain and distress which would otherwise be associated with the surgery.

Which type of anesthesia is suitable for me?
There are a number of different types of anesthesia used to perform cosmetic surgery. Which type will be suitable for you will depend on the type of plastic surgery you are thinking about having and your general health and fitness levels. Hence to make an informed decision as whether to proceed with the cosmetic surgery procedure you are considering it is important that you discuss the matter of anesthesia in depth with you cosmetic surgeon and also with an anesthetist if required.

Breast Reduction Cosmetic Surgery

Wednesday, 6 August 2008 07:30 by mike
Breast reduction is a common cosmetic surgery procedure (also known as reduction mammaplasty) which is performed to reduce the size of the breasts.  Some of the common reasons for breast reduction cosmetic surgery include:

  • Extremely large breasts can result in causing back, neck and shoulder pain. Having breast reduction cosmetic surgery can reduce the weight of the breasts resulting in less strain on the body and an increase in mobility.
  • Extremely large breasts can result in a women feeling excessively self conscious. Breast reduction surgery can provide a woman with a breast size which she feels is more in proportion to the rest of her body.
  • Breast reduction surgery can improve the symmetry of the breasts and give them a shapelier appearance. It can also help reduce the size of the areola which may be desired by some women for cosmetic reasons.
  • Woman with extremely large breasts often suffer from indentations caused by bra straps. Having breast reduction plastic surgery can provide a long term solution to this problem.
As with breast enlargement surgery (breast augmentation), breast reduction surgery is performed most commonly on women. However men who suffer from gynecomastia may also choose to have breast reduction surgery to obtain a firmer and better contoured chest. In either case however it is essential that you consult with an experienced cosmetic surgeon and do your research on the options available to you so that you can then make an informed decision as to whether breast reduction cosmetic surgery is the right choice for you.
