Choosing Between Smartlipo and Liposuction?

Friday, 26 September 2008 07:38 by mike
Smartlipo has a number of benefits over traditional liposuction which include:

• Lower recovery time
• Lower complication rates
• No need for general anaesthesia
• Smart lipo can be used to treat areas which are generally considered unsuitable for liposuction cosmetic surgery such as the face, forearms and knees.

However smart lipo is a minimally invasive procedure and is more suitable for patients who are of fairly average weight and are looking to get rid of excessive fat in stubborn areas such as love handles and double chins.  Smartlipo is not aimed at treating obesity or removing large quantities of fat from the body for which liposuction may be a better option.

All good cosmetic surgery clinics provide a detailed consultation before performing any cosmetic surgery procedure such as liposuction. So if you are seriously considering having liposuction (or smartlipo) it is recommended that you consult with a qualified cosmetic surgeon and/or physician specialising in smart lipo to obtain more information.  It should also always be remembered that despite the benefits of both liposuction and smartlipo treatments they are not substitutes for a healthy lifestyle which includes a healthy diet and adequate exercise.

The Hurlingham Clinic situated in London is one of UK’s leading cosmetic surgery providers and specialises in both smartlipo and liposuction. For more information on liposuction or smart lipo treatment The Hurlingham Clinic can be contacted on 020 7348 6380.

Four tips for successful Plastic Surgery

Thursday, 25 September 2008 06:08 by mike
Many people turn to plastic surgery to enhance their appearance and achieve their goals. To maximise the chances that you achieve the outcomes that you desire from your cosmetic surgery it is essential that you do your research and prepare thoroughly in advance. Below are four useful pointers which should help you in your research and preparation for plastic surgery.

1. Research thoroughly so that you have realistic expectations regarding your plastic surgery procedure.
Often people have cosmetic surgery with unrealistic expectations of the outcomes and are then left disappointed with the results. Therefore it is crucial that you understand what can realistically be achieved through the plastic surgery procedure that you are considering undergoing.  It is also important that you understand the possible risks of the cosmetic surgery procedure that you are having so that you can make an informed decision by weighing up the risks versus benefits of the procedure for you. All good cosmetic surgeons are willing to spend time with their patients so you should feel free to openly discuss your concerns and requirements with your surgeon.

2. Find a reputable qualified cosmetic surgeon.
It is essential that your cosmetic surgery is performed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon. Many clinics hire doctors with no or incomplete plastic surgery training to operate on patients.  To ensure your plastic surgery is performed by an adequately qualified plastic surgeon you can verify his or her qualifications by checking whether he or she is listed on the UK Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery. This can be done by contacting the General Medical Council on ++44(0)20 7580 7642.  Also don’t feel shy to ask your cosmetic surgeon for a copy of his or her CV which would highlight both his experience and qualifications.

3. Prepare properly for post operative recovery
Many people who have plastic surgery do not prepare adequately for their post operative recovery period. All good cosmetic surgery clinics provide a good post operative management plan for their patient’s to ensure a smooth post operative recovery period and appropriate management of any complications which may arise from the surgery. You should ensure that your cosmetic surgery provider has a good management plan in place for you before you make your final decision to proceed with them.

4. Consider the anaesthetic options available to you for your plastic surgery.
Not all plastic surgery procedures require a general anaesthetic. In many cases local anaesthesia or TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia) may be more suitable options as they tend to have lower complication rates and shorter recovery times in comparison to general anaesthesia. You should hence thoroughly discuss the different anaesthetic options available to you with your cosmetic surgeon so that you can then make an informed decision as to which is best for you.

Liposuction or Smart lipo?

Wednesday, 24 September 2008 02:33 by mike
Since the increase in popularity of smart lipo many people are unsure as to whether they should have liposuction cosmetic surgery or smartlipo which is a less invasive fat removal procedure. In this article we aim to provide you with some useful information on both procedures which should help you with your decision. What is Liposuction? Liposuction is one of the most well known plastic surgery procedures. It is a fat removal cosmetic surgery operation which can be performed to remove fat from many different sites of the body including the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttock, arms and neck. Most often liposuction surgery is performed to remove excess fat from: The abdomen and flanks in men. From the abdomen and thighs in women.

There are a number of different techniques for performing liposuction which include ultrasound assisted liposuction and tumescent liposuction. Your cosmetic surgeon should advise you on the various types of techniques available and recommend the most suitable one for you depending on your specific case. In general however liposuction surgery consists of making a small incision near the target area through which a narrow tube (cannula) is then inserted. Suction is then applied through the cannula to aspirate excess fat beneath the skin. The incision sites are carefully chosen to ensure that scarring is as inconspicuous as possible. Liposuction can be performed under both local anaesthesia and general anaesthesia. In general the type of anaesthetic chosen will depend on the extent of the liposuction surgery and the regions targeted. Smaller liposuction procedures can often be performed under local anaesthetic but you should discuss the various anaesthetic options which are suitable for you in depth with your cosmetic surgeon.

What is Smart lipo? Smartlipo is a more recent and less invasive fat removal procedure than liposuction. The smart lipo procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and involves inserting a small cannula near the target body region through which a laser is then applied to break down excessive adipose tissue (fat cells) which are then naturally removed by the body’s natural waste removal system. Due to the usage of a refined laser the smart lipo procedure is also sometimes known as smartlipo laserlipolysis. Smartlipo can be performed on a variety of different body areas including the abdomen, thighs, hips, flanks, behind the knees, arms, neck, chin and face.
