Common questions regarding breast implants

Thursday, 15 May 2008 08:00 by Mike
If you are considering having breast augmentation cosmetic surgery then naturally you may have a number of health concerns/questions regarding breast implants. This blog post is written to answer a few of the common health questions that women have regarding breast augmentation.

  • Will I be able to breast feed after having breast augmentation surgery?
Many women are concerned that if they have breast implants, then they will not be able to breast feed. However breast augmentation should not affect a woman’s ability to breast feed as the breast implants are placed below the breast gland. Therefore if you were able to produce breast milk before you breast enlargement surgery, then you should be able to do so afterwards. However please inform your surgeon that you intend to breast feed as this can affect the type of surgery that you should have.
A large number of studies have also been done to investigate whether there is any risk associated with breast feeding to the baby after having breast enlargement surgery. All of the studies have shown that there is no evidence that silicone breast implants do any harm to the baby and that it is safe to breastfeed after having a breast augmentation.

  • Do breast implants increase the chance of breast cancer?
No. A number of studies have been done to investigate any correlation between breast implants and breast cancer. The studies have found that there is no associated risk between breast implants and breast cancer. In fact some studies show that having breast augmentation can actually slightly lower the incidence of breast cancer. This is due to the fact that having breast augmentation lowers the amount of breast tissue that a woman has and hence there is less breast tissue which can become malignant.
However please note that you will still require having mammograms, ultrasound and MRI scans in the future as part of your routine breast cancer screen. When going for a breast cancer screen make sure you inform your doctor or radiographer that you have had breast implant cosmetic surgery as this will allow them to adjust the scanning procedure accordingly. Breast implants however do not impair the ability of the scans to detect breast cancer.

Permalip

Monday, 12 May 2008 06:48 by Mike
Permalip is a revolutionary type of lip augmentation cosmetic surgery. It is fast becoming one of the most popular lip augmentation treatments due to a number of benefits it offers over other types of lip enhancement prcedures.

Permalip is a permanent lip augmentation cosmetic surgery procedure. It is the only CE marketed lip enhancement procedure available at present. Permalip involves inserting a silicone lip implant into the lips which gives the lips a fuller and youthful look. Despite permalip being a permanent lip augmentation procedure, the lip implant can be easily removed if the individual wants to restore their original lip size and shape after the procedure has been performed.

  • Is permalip a safe lip augmentation cosmetic surgery procedure?
Hundreds of permalip procedures have been safely carried out till date. The silicone permalip implant is designed so that it doesn’t leak or rupture within the lips. It is also designed in a manner so that it cannot grow into nearby surrounding tissue. Post op complications are rare as it is a low risk procedure.

The permalip lip augmentation procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic and can be completed in approximately 20 minutes. Two small incisions are made at the corners of the lips through which the lip implant is passed. This is repeated for both the upper and lower lips. There is likely to be some swelling and bruising of the lips after the procedure is performed but there should be minimal pain. Overall you should be able to resume your daily activities the next day and most of the swelling should subside 1-2 days after the procedure.

The Hurlingham Clinic situated in London is one of UK’s leading lip augmentation clinics. If you would like more information on Permalip then The Hurlingham Clinic can be contacted on 020 7348 6380 for more information.

Common reasons for Breast Augmentation

Friday, 9 May 2008 01:13 by Mike
Having breast augmentation (breast implants) is a highly personal decision. There are many reasons why a woman may consider having breast augmentation which include:

  • Increase in breast size: many women feel conscious of the fact that their breasts are too small. Having a breast augmentation can help a woman achieve the breast size which she feels is ideal for her.
  • Increase in breast symmetry: alongside not being happy with the size of their breasts, many women also feel unhappy about the shape of their breasts. A breast lift can help improve the symmetry of the breasts which can be done alongside a breast implant.
  • Increase in confidence: many women feel less confident due to the size of their breast. Many women say that they achieve a boost in self confidence after having a breast augmentation as they start to feel less conscious about their breast size.
  • Reverse the signs of ageing: with age the breasts gradually start to lose their youthful appearance. Having a breast augmentation and breast lift can help restore the youthful appearance of the breasts by enhancing their volume and symmetry.
  • Restore breast size after weight loss: weight loss can cause a loss in breast size which can be restored through having a breast augmentation.
  • Enhance appearance: many women have breast implants simply because they want to enhance their appearance.
If you are considering having breast enlargement surgery the most important thing is that you are personally completely happy with your decision to have surgery before you proceed with it. The Hurlingham Clinic based in London is one of the leading breast augmentation clinics in the UK which can be contacted on 020 7238 6385 for more information on breast surgery or to arrange a consultation.
