FACE LIFT (RHYTIDECTOMY)
Planning and Preparation for facial plastic surgery.
Your initial consultation for facial plastic surgery.
Face lifts are highly personal. No two face lifts are alike. During the initial consultation for your facial plastic surgery, your surgeon will examine your face thoroughly, including the skin and the underlying bone and tissue. Together, you will agree on realistic goals and expectations for your face lift.
Communicating your medical history - an important first step in your facial plastic surgery.
Your surgeon will ask you about any medical conditions that could cause problems during or after your facial plastic surgery, such as high blood pressure, blood clotting problems, or any tendency to form excessive scars. Be frank, particularly about smoking and any drugs or medications you are taking - aspirin for example can affect clotting.
Your surgeon will explain fully the face lift techniques and the anaesthesia he will use, where the surgery will be performed, and the facial surgery risks and costs involved. Be sure to ask any questions you may have about discomfort following your face lift or healing time.
Preparing for your facial plastic surgery.
It's important you follow your surgeon's instructions on how to prepare for your facial plastic surgery. They may cover eating, drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications.
- Smoking and Facial Plastic Surgery: If you are a smoker, it's especially important that you stop at least two weeks before and after your facial surgery; smoking inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can interfere with the healing of your face lift.
- If your hair is very short, you might want to grow it out before the facial surgery, so that it's long enough to hide the face lift scars while they heal.
Even if you are only an outpatient, arrange for someone to drive you home after your facial surgery, and to help you out for a day or two afterwards.
Your face lift will be performed in a state of the art surgery theatre.
Our surgeons perform face lifts in the operating theatre at the renowned Hurlingham Clinic and Spa, or in one of the London private hospitals. Many patients are able to go home on the day of their facial surgery; some remain in the hospital for one or two days.
