Cosmetic Surgery Glossary

Cosmetic Surgery: this is the generic name given to a variety of medical and surgical procedures which focus on enhancing an individual’s appearance.  Cosmetic surgery is a continuously growing industry. The growing popularity of cosmetic surgery is being attributed to both the medical and surgical advances which are constantly taking place in the field and the growing public interest in it as more and more individuals continue to have successful cosmetic surgery treatment.

Plastic Surgery: the term plastic surgery is commonly used interchangeably with the term cosmetic surgery.  Plastic surgery treatment includes both cosmetic enhancement treatments and functionally reconstructive surgery.

However the term cosmetic surgery refers to treatments focused more on aesthetics and improving an individual’s appearance rather than reconstructive surgery.

Cosmetic Surgery Clinic: a clinic which specialises in providing cosmetic surgery treatments is known as a cosmetic surgery clinic. There are a number of private cosmetic surgery clinics in London although some reconstructive plastic surgery treatments are performed under the NHS.

Consultant Plastic Surgeon:  a qualified plastic surgeon that holds the post of a Consultant in a UK hospital is referred to as a consultant plastic surgeon.  Again a consultant plastic surgeon is also sometimes referred to as a consultant cosmetic surgeon.

Cosmetic Surgery Finance Packages: reputable private cosmetic surgery clinics generally offer help with finance plans so that their patients can manage the costs of their treatment by paying for their cosmetic surgery in instalments rather than as a single payment.  Good cosmetic surgery finance companies offer loans for private cosmetic surgery at low interest rates.

Payment Protection Insurance (PPI): this is a cover plan which can be taken alongside a plastic surgery finance plan. It covers patients if they are unable to work due to accident, sickness, unemployment or death.  If any of the above occurs, the PPI cover plan pays for the outstanding loan which was taken by the individual to have their private plastic surgery.
