SMARTLIPO / LASERLIPOLYSIS F.A.Q.s
What is SmartLipo?
SmartLipo is a pulsed Nd:Yag laser which is able to break down the membranes of fat cells without inducing physical trauma to the hypodermis (the subcutaneous tissue or deepest layer of the skin) as is the case with liposuction.
What does the SmartLipo Laserlipolysis procedure involve?
The Laserlipolysis procedure involves the hypodermis, where the fat tissue in the human body is concentrated. After puberty the fat cells (adipocytes) remain constant in number and change their size and volume according to the lipid (fat) content of these cells. Sometimes this fat assumes abnormal proportions in well-defined areas, modifying the natural shape of the body. SmartLipo is used to re-establish this shape.
How long does a SmartLipo treatment take?
The length of the treatment depends on how many areas you're having treated, but can take between one and two hours.
Which areas can SmartLipo tackle?
SmartLipo works best on small areas - double chins, turkey necks, hamster cheeks and jowels, bingo wings, knees, saddlebags, enlarged breast tissues in men, etc. It is ideal for people who are not excessively obese.
Are there any side effects to SmartLipo?
Although no surgical procedure is completely risk-free, SmartLipo is extremely safe. Bruising and swelling is kept to a minimum.
How long will it take to see results?
When the fat is left for the body to eliminate, the results are seen gradually over a number of weeks, though it may take up to four months for the maximum effects to be seen. This is because your body continues to process and naturally remove the released fat until none is left.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal with SmartLipo and one can resume normal activities almost immediately, although it is best to avoid vigorous physical activity or sports for one to two weeks. It might be necessary to wear an elasticated compression garment for about a week to help with speeding up the elimination of the free fat. Any swelling and bruising is considerably less than what would be expected with traditional liposuction.
Does the SmartLipo treatment hurt?
The SmartLipo procedure is done under a local anaesthetic and is not painful. Some people feel a slight sensation as the laser moves around under the skin.
Is everyone a suitable candidate for SmartLipo?
Not everyone is a suitable candidate for SmartLipo. There are certain situations where this type of treatment should be avoided. This is why a pre-treatment consultation with a physician is so important.
